What is Broadband and Why Important Message, Approach and Response

Description: As each SBA Program was setting up, we each discovered the lack of broadband explanation materials. The result is that we each created training curriculum and outreach materials explaining what broadband is, why it is important and how to get it. In this session we will share those materials, our chosen approach to the topic and responses we have received from program participants. This wiki page has a note section available so you don't forget a thing!

Time: Tuesday 11:00-12:00

Location: Allen Room

Facilitator: Samantha Schartman, OneCommunity

Notes:

Many of us work with program participants with low tech literacy levels.  So how do you begin to communicate to these participants the meaning, use, and value of Broadband?  Computers are tangible, access is not - so the valuation model and approach to training must overcome the challenge of not only technology literacy but also the intangibility of service.

In my session, we will be sharing examples of how we approach this and other challenges related to training, support material creation, and the responses we each have experienced!

How do you get people through the door?

Brighthouse - low cost connection options

Cleveland - partnership with local refurbisher + OneEconomy

Issues with Connectivity plays a part in training.  Possible options?

- internet access over power lines?
